Today, we picked tomatoes for the first couple of hours. Then Ellie and the Head Farmer washed and processed lettuce, A and J packaged tomatoes, and I pulled out a bed of lettuce. A and J later joined me to finish the task until lunch time. After lunch, A and I hoed the same field we hoed on the first day. Afterward, we hoed the new broccoli field. Then we helped weed it until 4:20pm, and then cleaned our tools before heading inside.
After dinner, Ellie played a youtube video of actors reading the Declaration of Independence for J (who is British.) We then sang her the Star Spangled Banner and The Preamble of the US constitution (the schoolhouse rock version.)
The Farm Mother had recommended that we go to a concert in Mount Vernon’s public park and lake access spot. Ellie and I decide to go to it. the lake was beautiful, and it was so lovely to watch the sunset over the lake while listening to the lovely music. Some of the music was extremely impressive, some was only okay. The Music varied from country, to classical, to this weird voice-flute mix. While there, we tried a new food for both of us, a dough boy. This is basically a piece of dough, deep fried and covered in butter, sugar and cinnamon. It was so good and obviously so bad for you; we thoroughly enjoied it.
We listened to the concert until about 9pm, and then moved a little when we realized that the fireworks display would be on the other side of the street, not across the pond. The fireworks show was impressive. I figured that, since this was a small town, they would have a small fireworks display, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a long displayed, varied in type of firework, and was well orchestrated. In my head, I played Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture during the fireworks.
I had such a lovely time this evening it was a fantastic pre-fourth of July celebration.
