Comfrey

comfrey1Comfrey is a wretched weed. The previous owners of the farm planted it, thinking it would be good for the cows. I wish they hadn’t. its roots are tuber like, and break easily from the body of the plant. This makes them like little zombies that never die. Because of this, they are incredibly difficult to remove. One has to dig deep into the ground the pull up the entire root if one wants to completely eradicate it from the garden. Most of the first shift I spent ripping out comfrey, and then creating two beds for beans. Afterward lunch, I removed more comfrey, hayed potatoes again, laid hay where I had ripped up the comfrey, had harvested peas and dill. The Head Farmer let me finish my shift a little early, which I’m grateful for since I haven’t been feeling great.

On a better not, Ellie and I have started reading How We Decide and are making great dinner conversation with it.
