This morning, we picked spinach and then hoed between the some of the rows.
Ellie and I practiced taking care of the chickens and the pigs. First thing in the morning, we went out to water and feed the chickens. At 9:30am, we collected the eggs and gave the pigs food and water. One of the young chickens is laying! At noon, we fed and watered the the “old ladies” (the 2 year old chickens) and the “young girls” (new chickens) and checked on the “new layers” (the layers from this season.)
After lunch, Aizhan, Angela, and I stacked wood. Mr. D helped for a while, but also went back and forth with the tractor, moving the wood to the stacking area. We would toss the logs to one another and stack them in the wood room or the basement. It’s awesome that the family prepares their wood supply this early in the year. As a Californian, I have never needed to prepare for winter. This was a very eye opening experience. And a very tiring one, especially in that heat.
After work, Aizhan, Angela and I threw around a football for a while. Aizhan was telling the Head Farmer that she wanted to play football some day, so while he was at the store, he bought her one. It was so sweet of him.But apparently, I’m terrible at throwing a football.
We then went to the lake and swam to the island. It took 16 minutes to swim there and 14 minutes to swim back.
