Computer failure

My computer malfunctioned, and I have finally recovered. It took weeks of catch up to make up for the lost productivity in regards to my school work. I can’t imagine how frustrating this would have been if I didn’t know as much about computers as I do. (Not to say I’m an expert, just that I was able to work out what had happened, and come up with a solution.)

A few weeks ago, I scheduled my windows update for midnight on Saturday, October 1st. Sunday morning, I awoke to a blue screen and corrupted files for Windows to boot from. After spending most of Sunday afternoon trying to repair my computer, I resigned to the fact that I would probably need to just back up my files and re-install Windows. I was tempted to move to Linux, I decided that my addiction to Microsoft office products was too intense, and I didn’t want to pay a monthly subscription for their cloud based software, if I already own a licence for Office 2016. So I contacted my brother Allan, and asked him to take a final look at it, just in case he could think of a repair.

Allan came over on Wednesday night. He did a few things, and eventually agreed that clearing my hard drive and re-installing windows was probably the best way to resolve my problem. We did one final look on the hard drive for any files I might need using Linux booted off a flash drive. We reinstalled Windows, all my apps (like chrome and Office) as well as all my files.

At then end of the night, we decided to make plans to got out on his boat for fleet week on Saturday.
